Chapter 11

We were going around the bend to my mom’s house and I saw a black BMW 6 series in the driveway. It must be Elisabeth’s car. We all got out of the car. Dani walked into the house first. Her head was up and you could tell she wasn’t scared of this witch. Eli and Stephen flanked my sides making me feel anxious. It was only twenty feet from the car to the house. Maybe they wanted to show a united front. The three of us followed behind Dani through in the door. My dad was standing by the table in the kitchen. My mom was sitting on the sofa and Elisabeth was standing facing the two of them. She turned to look at Dani as she came through the front door. We stepped inside just after her.

“Ah, so you are all making one nice cozy family out here. It’s all very sweet to see, the Martin’s, the Proctor’s, and the Bishop’s all under one roof. It reminds me of another time, when my great Grandmother lived with your families in Salem.” I hadn’t realized that each of the people in the house had a direct link to Salem village.

“Your great Grandmother, Abigail, was a liar,” Dani spat out. “When she chose to collaborate with Jeremiah and use their destructive magic they had nineteen people hung and one person pressed to death. She was no witch that I would claim or have pride in. I can feel that darkness in you, it’s no wonder you’ve always been drawn to Jeremiah,” Dani spat out.

Elisabeth laughed, more like cackled, and it was awful sounding. Then, she spoke in a high-pitched tone. “Oh, I must apologize for my family’s involvement in Bridget’s death such a shame that the town whore had to be hung,” Elisabeth said.

Eli lunged for Elisabeth but Stephen put up a wall and stopped him. I could tell she was trying to get one of us to act against her. She was looking for an excuse to attack.
